HANDLING & FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS

HANDLING.- CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE SHIPMENT IMMEDIATELY UPON RECEIVING THE DOORS!

If the doors are delivered by Common Carrier, they are responsible for any loss or damage. Acceptance of the shipment is acknowledgement to the transportation company that the articles delivered by them were in good condition and properly packaged. If merchandise appears damaged in any way, note on the receiving ticket- "Damaged". If the damage is visible, note on the freight bill the nature and extent of damages. If the damage is not noticed until after the deliveryman has left, notify your dealer /distributor and the transportation company immediately. Concealed damage must be reported to the carrier no later than fifteen (15) days from delivery.

Doors should be handled carefully in order not to scratch. When transporting door slabs spacers should be used to ensure that mouldings do not come into contact with each other, corner protectors should be attached to protect the edges of the door and an appropriately sized pallet should be used so that the doors do not protrude beyond the pallet edges.

The doors should be inspected carefully before pre-hanging or machining for any manufacturing defects. Doors should not be delivered to a jobsite or installed until concrete floors, foundations and plaster or drywalls are completely dry. Doors should be stored in a dry well-ventilated area. Doors shall always be stored on edge, supported vertically (not leaning). Doors shall not be exposed to excessive heat, dryness, humidity or direct sunlight prior to finishing. Handle doors with clean gloves and do not drag them across each other. The structural strength of the door must not be impaired in the fitting of the door, the application of hardware or cutting and altering the door for lights, louvers, panels or any other special details.

FINISHING: To protect the craftsmanship and durability of the doors, please be sure to follow the finishing instructions as shown below.

  • Check for any physical damage to the door prior installing or finishing. Improper handling or finishing may result in warranty non-conformance. Avoid finishing during extreme heat or humidity, allowing the doors to acclimate to their environment before finishing.
  • Before finishing, remove blemishes and handling marks by block sanding all surfaces using 220-grit sandpaper.
  • Prepare the door for staining by using a pre-stain conditioner to help prevent blotching and streaking. The wood conditioner penetrates the wood, preparing the surface so that stain is absorbed evenly. If painting, the door should be treated with a moisture resistant primer to seal and fill the grain. If not used, the Rose Mahogany coloration may bleed through the final paint coat.
  • Even though color may have been added through staining, color variations may occur on the final product. Wood as a natural product does have different shades and hues within the same species, as well as stain absorption rates pre-sealing assists in obtaining uniform results.
  • Wipe down with a tack cloth to ensure a dust free finish.
  • When staining, apply a sample to a small area of the door to ensure that it has the desired effect before applying it to the whole door. Following stain manufacturer's instructions, apply each coat of quality finish evenly to all surfaces of the door, including the edges and in the hinge pockets and lock mortise. The Limited Warranty requires that all six(6) sides of the door be sealed.
  • NOTE: Avoid water-based sealers and primers (except where required by law). Water-based finishes should be used only on surfaces completely sealed with non water-based sealers or primers. Water based finishes can cause, highlight joints and raise wood grain.
